Prayer to Saint Sebastian

Glorious Saint Sebastian,
you who had great courage,
help us to be witnesses of Jesus
before this unbelieving world
as you have brought others to Christ.
Help us to have the love of neighbor that you had
and to give our lives for our brothers,
even in difficulties and dangers.
Help us to have faith in the pains of life
as you endured cruel martyrdom.
Protect all soldiers, military and police
against every danger in their work.
Protect all nations against wars,
hunger and pestilence.
Intercede for the grace that I need...

Sixth day: [Psalm 40:12-18]

For troubles surround me,
until they are beyond number;
my sins have overtaken me;
I cannot see my way.
They outnumber the hairs of my head,
and my heart fails me.
Be pleased, Yahweh,
to rescue me, Yahweh,
come quickly and help me!
Shame and dismay to all who seek to take my life.
Back with them,
let them be humiliated who delight in my misfortunes.
Let them be aghast with shame,
those who say to me, 'Aha, aha!'
But joy and happiness in You to all who seek You!
Let them ceaselessly cry,
'Great is Yahweh'
who love Your saving power.
Poor and needy as I am,
the Lord has me in mind.

You, my helper, my Saviour,
my God, do not delay.
